A Special Note from Juan

Hello Neighbors and Friends,

It's remarkable to think we're approaching the fourth anniversary of the Shelter-in-Place order that changed all our lives back in 2020. During those uncertain days, it was truly a struggle to keep Ava's doors open and shelves stocked. We faced challenges we'd never imagined—supply disruptions, navigating new safety measures, and wondering how we could possibly get through. Yet, thanks to your incredible support and kindness, we overcame those difficult times together.

I often reflect on those tough days and how you, our neighbors, chose Ava’s Market and reminded us all of the true value of a dependable local store. Your decision to support us over larger retailers not only helped us survive but also strengthened our sense of community and connection.

Today, while the challenges may look different, Ava's continues to rely on your loyalty and support—now more than ever. Small, community-focused businesses like ours still face significant hurdles, and every one of your visits makes a genuine difference. Your choice to shop locally helps us stay strong, vibrant, and deeply connected to this wonderful neighborhood.

So, I sincerely thank everyone who's been loyal since day one and warmly welcome those who've recently discovered Ava’s. Let's keep this sense of community alive and growing—your continued visits and support truly mean the world to us.

Thank you for keeping Ava’s thriving and being a vital part of our journey. 💚🍇🥖

Warmest regards,

Juan Origel

🥧 Happy Pi Day, Math Nerds Enthusiasts! 🍰

March 14th (3.14) is just around the corner, and that means it's time to celebrate Pi Day—the only holiday that proves math can be sweet! Pi Day was first celebrated in 1988, making it younger than the cheese in some of our refrigerators. 🧀

Here's a tasty fact: We all know that pi is infinite and never repeats, but did you know that the first 144 digits of pi add up to 666? Spooky math coincidence, or just another reason to eat pie instead of doing math? 😈🤔

Speaking of infinite delight, Ava’s Market has partnered with Palo Alto Baking Company, our beloved local bakery known for creating pies so good, they're irrationally delicious! Good luck ☘️ choosing your favorite:

  • 🍎 Apple Cinnamon Tart: Enjoy tender apples perfectly spiced with cinnamon, nestled in a flaky, golden crust—like your grandma's pie, but even better.
  • 🍐 Pear Almond Tart: Savor the dreamy blend of smooth almond frangipane and sweet, tender pears baked to golden perfection. Comforting and indulgent.
  • 🌰 Pecan Tart: Dive into rich, caramelized pecan filling surrounded by buttery, melt-in-your-mouth pastry—so good you'll nut believe it.
  • 🍒 Cherry Tart: Experience sweet and tart cherries bursting from a crisp, buttery crust. It's cherry bliss in every bite.
  • 🫐 Triple Berry Tart: Bite into a buttery, golden crust overflowing with juicy strawberries, plump blueberries, and tangy raspberries. It's juicy, vibrant, and berry delicious.

Pro-tips for pie bliss:

  • Warm your pie in the oven at 350°F for 10 min—flavor levels: unlocked!
  • Add vanilla ice cream to the Triple Berry Tart, or caramel sauce to the Pear Almond Tart. Desserts deserve company too!
  • Or… are you feeling adventurous? Add some ricotta whipped with lemon zest to take your pie game to the next level. Sounds weird, but once you taste how its tangy sweetness adds a creamy richness to your pie slice, you'll never go back to plain ol' whipped cream!

Pi might go on forever, but pie this good definitely won’t. Swing by Ava’s Market and make this Pi Day math-magical!

🍀🍺 Raise a Glass to Irish Craftsmanship! 🍺🍀

With St. Patrick’s Day around the corner, there’s no better way to celebrate Irish heritage (or pretend you have some!) than by sipping on authentic, flavorful Irish beers available at Ava’s Market. We proudly feature an exceptional lineup of Irish brews that’ll transport your taste buds straight to the Emerald Isle:

  • Sullivan's Maltings Irish Ale: A traditional red ale brewed in Kilkenny, Ireland, this smooth, malty brew offers notes of caramel and biscuit balanced beautifully with just a hint of roasted barley. Rich and easy-going, just like the perfect Irish afternoon.
  • Wexford Irish Style Nitro Draught Creme Ale: Smooth as silk, Wexford's Nitro Draught Creme Ale boasts a velvety texture complemented by subtle malt sweetness and a creamy, luxurious head. One sip, and you'll swear you've discovered liquid Irish luck.
  • O’Hara’s Irish Stout Nitro: Dark, rich, and creamy, O'Hara’s Stout features delightful hints of roasted coffee and chocolate, poured on nitro for that iconic creamy head and irresistibly smooth mouthfeel. It's the kind of stout you'd expect to enjoy beside a roaring fire in a cozy Irish pub.
  • Sullivan's Irish Gold Ale: Light, crisp, and refreshingly balanced, this golden ale offers delicate malt sweetness and gentle floral hop notes. It's sunshine in a bottle—ideal for raising a toast with friends or chasing leprechauns (we don't judge).

☘️ Pro-tips for your Irish Beer:

  1. Warm Up to Better Flavor: Let Sullivan’s ales sit at room temp for 10 minutes—cold masks flavor, and a slightly warmer ale reveals caramel and malt notes you never knew existed. Think of it as letting your beer relax a bit—it’s had a long trip from Ireland.
  2. Salty Stout Magic: A tiny pinch of sea salt in O’Hara’s Stout highlights chocolate and coffee notes by reducing bitterness. Weird? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely. It’s like a sweet-salty Irish jig on your tongue.
  3. Flip Before You Sip: Invert your Nitro beer briefly before opening—it evenly distributes nitrogen for an extra velvety pour. It’s like shaking up a snow globe, but tastier (and way less messy). 🍀

Come by Ava’s to explore our exceptional Irish beer collection and put your new-found knowledge to the test—Sláinte! 🍻
