Hi Reader,
Spring has officially sprung at Ava’s—and we’re sensing something amazing! Did you know you’re actually walking around with more than five senses? Yep, it’s true, and this week we’re diving into how you can taste, sip, and savor the sweetness of spring with all ten. From fresh blooms to buzz-worthy honeys and wines that truly capture the essence of the season, we’ve got a lineup that’ll excite every sense you didn’t even know you had.
And speaking of buzz—join us for an exclusive wine tasting event this Friday, where you’ll experience flavors that perfectly embody springtime. So come in, grab some honey, smell the roses, and let’s celebrate the new season together! 🍷🌷🍯
🌼 Spring is for the Birds and Bees! 🐝
Spring officially bounced into town on March 20th with the vernal equinox—the day when daylight and nighttime politely shake hands, whispering, “Long time no see!” 🌞🌜 Fun fact: During the equinox, the sun rises precisely in the east and sets exactly in the west, making it nature’s version of a perfectly symmetrical Instagram post. It’s a beautiful reminder that brighter days and bees working overtime are officially back.
Speaking of bees, they’re already buzzing happily around Ava’s, thanks to our spectacularly fresh and colorful selection of flowers. We’ve got bouquets for every occasion, mood, and excuse—whether you’re celebrating spring, apologizing for forgetting their birthday (again), or simply want to make your space look like an adult lives in it. Plus, buying flowers locally at Ava’s supports your community—so you can feel extra good while you brighten up that corner. 🌷🌻
And since our fuzzy little pollinator friends are the real heroes of the season, we’ve stocked our shelves with honeys so irresistible you might get emotional:
- Don Victor Pure Honey: This smooth, golden nectar is delicately floral with subtle notes of citrus, perfect drizzled over warm biscuits, buttery toast, or stirred generously into your morning tea. 🍯🫖
- Don Victor Pure Honey with Comb: Comes with a glorious piece of edible honeycomb—crunchy, sweet, and wonderfully aromatic. Spread it onto cheese, crackers, or straight onto your tongue for a uniquely delightful experience. 🐝🤤
- Attiki Pure Raw Greek Honey: Rich, luxurious, and gently earthy, this Greek treasure is thick enough to drizzle slowly over creamy yogurt, sweet figs, or fresh fruit, instantly transporting your tastebuds to the sunny Mediterranean coast. 🇬🇷🍯
Bad Bee Jokes:
- What kind of bees drop things? Fumblebees!!
- Why did the bee get arrested? He was caught buzzed driving.
- What’s a bee’s favorite haircut? A buzzcut.
- What do bees drink at brunch? Bee-llinis.
- What do you call bees that produce milk? Boobees. (Yep, we went there.)
Buzz on into Ava’s this spring to treat yourself to stunning flowers, incredible honey, and all the seasonal sweetness you deserve. It really is the bee’s knees—and yes, we’re still making bee jokes. 🌸🐝🍯

🩸 Come Taste Some Bloody Good Wines 🍷
Good news, wine lovers! Ava’s is hosting a special BloodRoot Wines tasting event this Friday, March 21st, from 5–7 PM. (Mark your calendars—or at least have your phone remind you.) It’s your perfect excuse to drink wine, call it “research,” and feel sophisticated about it.
BloodRoot Wines is a truly Californian creation, born from collaboration, passion, and an obsession with capturing the heart and soul of the state’s premier wine regions. The name “BloodRoot” evokes the concept of wine as the “blood of the earth,” deeply rooted in the soil and nourished by the terroir—symbolizing the continuous cycle of growth, renewal, and transformation inherent in winemaking.
Take their Pinot Noir, for example: grown in vineyards gently nudged awake by morning fog and ocean breezes, this wine offers bright bursts of ripe cherries, tart raspberries, and a subtle earthy undertone—think “forest hike,” but way more delicious. 🍒🌲
Meanwhile, their new Cabernet Sauvignon is a rich expression of Sonoma County’s sun-soaked vineyards, blending juicy blackberry, velvety dark plum, and notes of cocoa and spice. It’s sophisticated yet approachable—like your coolest friend who wears sunglasses indoors and somehow gets away with it. 😎
Come taste these Californian treasures for yourself this Friday. We promise your taste buds will thank you—probably by demanding a second glass. 🍇✨

👃👅 How to Taste with ALL Your Senses! 👀👂
We humans have only five senses, right? Sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing. But surprise! Scientists have identified way more—at least ten, possibly up to 20 or more. We've got senses for balance, temperature, pain, and even a sense of where our limbs are without looking (ever missed your mouth while eating popcorn? Exactly).
Now, let's dive into how you can use your 10 key senses to level up your tasting game, whether you're sipping wine, savoring beer, or nibbling your favorite cheese:
- Sight: Check out the color, clarity, and visual appeal. Does it look appetizing, or mysteriously cloudy (uh-oh)?
- Hearing: Listen to the pop of carbonation, the fizz in your glass, or even the crunch of fresh food. Yes, tasting is sometimes noisy.
- Touch (Mouthfeel): Is it silky, bubbly, velvety, or maybe scratchy (hopefully not)?
- Thermoception (Temperature): Notice the warmth or coolness. Ever tasted warm ice cream? Not ideal.
- Proprioception (Body Awareness): Pay attention to how your tongue moves, and the inside of your mouth feels, as you taste. A great wine will almost make your tastebuds dance.
- Nociception (Pain): Spicy foods trigger this sense, making your taste experience thrilling (or terrifying—hello, ghost peppers!).
- Smell: Swirl it around and take a deep sniff. Your nose can detect thousands of aromas—put it to work!
- Chemoreception: Detects chemicals, especially the subtler notes. Ever tasted a hint of minerals or earthiness in wine? That’s chemoreception in action.
- Taste: Sweet, sour, salty, bitter, or umami—what hits your tongue first?
- Interoception (Internal Sensations): Notice how your body responds internally—like hunger, fullness, or that warm, satisfied feeling after the perfect bite or sip.
- Equilibrioception (Balance): Whoa, how many glasses have you had so far? Slow down!
Think you've mastered your senses? Swing by Ava’s for one of our many tasting events, and put your newfound sensory superpowers to the test. We promise it'll be sense-ational. (Sorry, had to!) 🍇🍺🧀
