Come To Ava's. We'll Get You Stoned.

What's New at Ava's

July 12, 2025

Hi Reader,

We hope you had a safe and joy-filled 4th of July, and that you’re reading this with most of your original fingers still intact. 🇺🇸🎆 Now that the smoke’s cleared and the neighbors have stopped launching bottle rockets from their Recology bins, we’re diving headfirst into peak summer season at Ava’s—which means drippy stone fruits and viral Dubai chocolate so rich it tried to buy a condo downtown. Plus: We even wrote you a song! 🎼

The sun’s high, the saxophones are wailing on Castro Street, and your chin’s about to be covered in peach juice. Let’s get sticky. 🍑🍫🫟

🍫 Dubai Chocolate: The Bar That Broke the Internet (And Your Diet) 🍫

Dubai Chocolate is here at Ava’s and it’s melting minds faster than an iPhone left on a car dashboard in July. Born in Dubai in 2021 by genius dessert alchemist Sarah Hamouda, this viral chocolate bar crams pistachio cream, tahini, gooey kunafa, and crunchy noodles inside a milk chocolate shell. It’s what happens when baklava joins Cirque du Soleil and does backflips inside your mouth.

Why so viral? Because it's rare, mysterious, looks ridiculously good, and tastes even better. One TikTok video hit over 120 million views, and now people are smuggling them into suitcases like they’re delicious gold bars. Usually you’d have to fly to Dubai and wait in line behind 300 influencers all yelling “THIS IS INSANE” at their phones. But lucky for you, Ava’s has the hookup. No plane tickets. No customs. No bribing a flight attendant named Darren.

We’ve got Choco Splatter, which sounds like something your kid would say after eating five of these:

  • Fudgy Brownies – Like licking brownie batter off a lava lamp.
  • Kunafa & Pistachio – The original legend. Gooey, nutty, dangerous.
  • Strawberry Cheesecake – Sweet, creamy, and weirdly romantic.
  • Bisco Cream – Think Lotus Biscoff spread but weaponized.

Also in stock: Feritio bars from Turkey in both 200g and 80g sizes, depending on how reckless brave you are. These bars are halal, hand-crafted, and will fill you with all the joy and satisfaction that your ex did for that first wonderful week until Sherri came along and ruined everything THANKS A LOT SHERRI.

Fun Fact: “Kunafa” comes from Arabic kanaf, meaning “to shelter”—which is exactly what this chocolate bar does for your feelings. You’re not eating your emotions. You’re protecting them.

You’ve had chocolate before, but not like this. This is chocolate with a passport, a personality, and a flavor so good it will have its own specific tariff soon. And you can only get it while Ava’s still has it in stock—because once those South Bay sugar fiends from Los Altos find out, these bars will vanish faster than a Waymo car running from accountability.

🥑 Summer's Here: It's finally STONE FRUIT SEASON, babies! 🍑

Time to stain your shirt, ruin your car’s cupholders, and make out with a nectarine in public. And at Ava’s Market, we’re absolutely bursting with the juiciest, ripest, most sensual fruits this side of the 280.

Let’s get nerdy for a sec: They’re called stone fruits because they’ve got a big hard pit (aka a “stone”) in the middle. That’s right, they’re soft on the outside and hardcore on the inside. Just like you as a teenager, eating dinner at home before sneaking out to see Green Day in Berkeley.

Right now, California’s pumping out:

  • Peaches – clingstone, freestone, and everything in between 🍑
  • Nectarines – peaches that wax 😏
  • Plums – sweet, sour, and confusing, like your favorite barista
  • Pluots – plum-apricot hybrids, because fruit scientists get bored too!
  • Cherries – late-season, and still hangin’ on like your college ex
  • Apricots – tender little wrinkled suns that taste like warm nostalgia
  • Donut Peaches – yes, they look weird. Yes, they taste amazing. Yes, you can stack them like edible hockey pucks.

And these aren’t your bland, rock-hard, no-smell grocery chain fruits from overseas. These are local, organic, sun-worshipping miracles straight from farms in real-deal towns like Brentwood, Modesto, and Watsonville—places you’ve driven past on Highway 5 while asking, “Wait, is this still California?”

Fun Fact: 🍑 Peaches are part of the rose family. Yep—That soft, juicy mess of a fruit is cousin to your Valentine’s bouquet. 🌹

Why go organic and local? Because you deserve fruit that doesn’t taste like cardboard sadness, and because supporting small farms = more fruit parties for the future. Plus, organic stone fruits have higher antioxidant levels, fewer chemicals, and way more flavor explosions per bite. (Scientific term.)

So stop by. Grab a peach. Your shirt should be soaked and your chin should be dripping. And don't worry—we’ll mop up after you leave. 👕💦

…and finally, a little ditty to hum while you slowly transform into the Veruca Salt of nectarines:

🎶 “Everybody Must Eat Stone(d) Fruit” 🎸

(to the tune of Bob Dylan’s nasal chaos)

Well, our stone fruit gets ya when you walk in feelin’ good
Our stone fruit’s stacked just like you knew it would
Our stone fruit waits for you to head back home
The stone fruit leaks… (So you eat it all alone)

But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must eat stone(d) fruit 🎷
Well, our stone fruit tempts ya walking down Castro street
Our stone fruit sings while you’re melting in the heat
Our stone fruit stares while you’re reachin’ for the brie
Our stone fruit knows you’re weak for produce glee
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must eat stone(d) fruit 🎶
Well, our stone fruit’s stacked like sculpture near the till
Some stone fruit rolls down toward that windowsill
Our stone fruit’s from a farm you’ve driven past
Our stone fruit’s here—and
it goes real fast!
But I would not feel so all alone
Everybody must eat stone(d) fruit 🍑
