Hi Reader,
This week at Ava’s, we’re getting to the bottom of the chicken—literally! 🐔 From crispy feet to mystery nuggets and everything in between, we’re diving beak-first into the many parts of poultry. Which part is best? Which part is… not a part at all? 👀 Let’s find out—preferably with sauce.
🐓 Ava's Got Cold Feet 🦶
Let’s get something straight: chicken feet are not a joke. They’re not even that weird (okay, they’re a little weird, but so is kombucha). These gnarly little nuggets are flavor grenades, collagen-packed delicacies that your ancestors ate with pride before we all collectively lost our culinary nerve and decided "nuggets" were the only acceptable shape for poultry.
Good news for the adventurous: we’ve got Chicken Feet in stock right now—frozen and fabulous. Hacienda del Valle is California-based, sourcing their quality meats with care. They’re a go-to for chefs and aunties alike who know how to coax deep, rich flavor out of every part of the bird—not just the parts Instagram finds photogenic.
Still skeptical? Buckle up, my friend: The rest of the world has a lot to offer your newly-discovered taste buds:
- 🇨🇳 Braised in Soy Sauce and Star Anise
In China, chicken feet (aka phoenix claws) are a dim sum staple. Simmer in soy, garlic, ginger, and spices until the feet are sticky, sweet, and deeply savory. Eat with your hands. Get over it.
- 🇲🇽 Spicy Pickled Feet (Mexican Botana)
They also make great snacks! Boil, then soak in vinegar, chiles, garlic, and herbs. Chill and snack like you’re the coolest grandma in Jalisco.
- 🇯🇲 Jamaican Chicken Foot Soup
Stew with pumpkin, banana, dumplings, and Scotch bonnets. One bowl and you’ll be dancing in your kitchen with no pants on.
So come on—don’t be chicken. If you’ve ever eaten buffalo wings and thought, “this could use more personality and a few extra bones,” this is your moment. Ava’s has some Chicken Feet waiting for you like a funky little dare from the culinary gods.

🌭 Sausages: For the Sophisticated Toddler in All of Us 🐓🍎
OK, so you’re a baby. Not literally (unless you’re reading this at 6 months old—in which case, congratulations on being a genius), but culinarily? You’re still in your soft foods era. No bones, no beaks, no judgment. You want your chicken in perfectly smooth, friendly little tubes. Enter: Aidells Chicken & Apple Sausages, available right now at Ava’s.
These sausages are the gateway drug to real flavor. Sweet apples. Juicy chicken. Zero mystery meat. Just wholesome, gently spiced, honestly kind of adorable sausages that go with:
- Scrambled eggs (whether breakfast OR dinner)
- Mac & cheese (and ketchup, for some reason, if you're 🇨🇦)
- A toasted bun, sauerkraut, mustard, a cold beer, a hot sun, and a light breeze. 🏝️
Plus they’re fully cooked, which is perfect because with this bay area heat wave, you are so not turning on the oven tonight. Just nuke them them for a bit, plate them with a single sprig of parsley to pretend you tried, and bask in the glow of adulting without effort.
Ava’s has ’em. And just like our other sausages—these won’t make you break a sweat or question your morals. Go on, you delicate little flavor duckling. You’ve earned this.

🐓 Behold: The Noble Nugget 🍗
The nugget is the ultimate form of culinary mystery. Who knows what part of the chicken it’s from? Wing? Thigh? Left eyebrow? No one knows. No one wants to know. And if you even try to guess which part of the chicken Jack & Annie’s Crispy Nuggets come from—sorry, you’re already wrong.
Because there’s no chicken involved. Not a beak, not a feather, not even a passing cluck. These bad boys are 100% plant-based, made from jackfruit, which somehow looks like a medieval weapon on the outside but tastes like crispy, savory, golden magic on the inside.
Eat ‘em like you would any nugget:
- Dunked in BBQ sauce like a 5-year-old with zero shame.
- Sliced and tossed on a salad like a productive adult with too much shame.
- Straight out of the air fryer without waiting for them to cool off and burning your tongue. Again. It didn't even fully heal from last time, jeez.
Go ahead. Get nuggety with it. And this time, know exactly what you’re eating—even if your mouth still thinks it’s chicken.
