What's New At Ava's

Hi Reader,
This week at Ava’s, we’re celebrating Moist January. It’s like Dry January, but with realistic expectations. We all promise to drink less… right up until someone texts “Happy Hour?” and suddenly you’re on your third Mojito at Cascal. Luckily, NA drinks have had a serious glow-up, and no longer taste like they've already been filtered through someone else's bladder.
🍺 Regret-Free Beers
January is long, cold (by Mountain View standards), and sometimes you just want a beer without waking up feeling like a Google Calendar notification you forgot to snooze.
Sapporo Premium Non-Alcoholic
Clean, crisp, and lightly malty with subtle rice sweetness, this one still has that classic dry finish Sapporo is known for. Fun fact: Japanese brewers take NA beers very seriously, which is why this tastes like something you’d actually drink by choice, not punishment.
Best Day Brewing
Their Kölsch is bright and bready with a soft floral note, the West Coast IPA leans piney and citrusy, and the Hazy brings juicy tropical vibes without the brain fog. Award-winning and brewed in California, so it pairs nicely with passive-aggressive weather and saying “yeah, we should totally hike sometime.”
Weihenstephaner Non-Alcoholic Malt Beverage
Malty, lightly sweet, and bread-forward with notes of caramel and cereal grain. This brewery dates back nearly 1,000 years, which means monks were basically doing Dry January before it was cool.
Estrella Galicia Non-Alcoholic
Smooth and balanced with toasted malt, gentle bitterness, and a clean finish. It tastes like sitting at a café in Spain, except you’re actually on Castro Street watching a Rivian try to parallel park for 12 minutes.

🍷 Wines for the Mature But Legally Innocent
Wine is about ritual, not just alcohol. The glass, the swirl, the pretending you taste “stone fruit” when really you couldn't tell a Pinot Noir grape from a PB&J grape jelly (which, fun fact, are Concord grapes, used in jellies for their high pectin content and Deep Purple color, despite very little smoke on the water). 🥪
Gavioli
The black label leans darker and richer with blackberry and soft tannin notes, while the orange label is brighter with citrus peel and gentle acidity. Founded in 1794, which means this winery has survived wars, empires, and now… Dry January.
Pizzolato
Lightly and bubbly with green apple, pear, and citrus notes, plus a refreshing snap at the end. Organic, Italian, and festive enough that no one at dinner will ask why you’re “not drinking.” Plus… the bottle is fancier than that nervous friend pretends to be while attending a Sand Hill Road gala.
Ariel Chardonnay & Cabernet Sauvignon
Chardonnay offers apple, pear, and soft oak tones, while the Cab brings dark cherry, cassis, and a structured mouthfeel. Fun Fact: These are dealcoholized wines, meaning they start as real wine, with all the mouth feel, acidity, and tannins that you love. But these politely remove the regret and evil spirits using either reverse osmosis (filtration), or vacuum distillation (boiling off the ethanol by, we assume, putting it in a SpaceX capsule and launching it into outer space).
Ohla!
Made primarily from Airén grapes, the white is crisp and lightly floral, while the rosé adds red berry and melon notes. Spanish roots, sunny energy, and somehow still appropriate for January gloom.

🍹 Mocktails, But Still Fun!
For when you want a cocktail moment, but don't want to awkwardly re-read your sent messages the following morning (sorry about that, Riley).
- Mojito — Bright lime, cooling mint, and just enough sweetness to feel refreshing instead of sugary. Tastes like a beach vacation, minus the sunburn and bad decisions.
- Strawberry Margarita — Juicy strawberry balanced with citrus and a subtle tart edge that keeps it from feeling like juice. Basically a margarita that won’t ask you why you’re awake at 3am.
- Blackberry Daiquiri — Deep berry flavor with a soft sweetness and smooth finish. It's even fancy enough for a coupe glass (did you know that's actually pronounced "coppa glass"?) (haha just kidding).
All of these are waiting for you at Ava’s, quietly supporting your January goals while fully aware they probably end around the first birthday party, trivia night, or “accidental” happy hour. We get it. Cheers. 🥂

🎄 Last Chance for Holiday Treats! 🍫
This is it. Last call for international Christmas goodies before they vanish back across the ocean like festive little cultural exchange students. Panettone, chocolates, cookies, tins, boxes, wafers, creams, things wrapped in gold foil for absolutely no reason… they’re all here right now, and then suddenly it’s January and you’re staring at a protein bar wondering where joy went. (Though, let's be honest, our Quest bars slap.)

Upcoming Events
- Mon, Jan 19 – 🖤 MLK Day
A day to reflect on community, care, and showing up for one another. If you’re off work, take a walk down Castro St, support a local shop, and do one small good thing for your neighborhood. Ava’s will be here for you, no group project required.
- Mon, Feb 2 – 🐹 Groundhog Day
A small rodent will look at his shadow and somehow decide how soon winter ends. This is science. Either way, Ava’s will be here with comfort food, because no matter what Phil says, Bay Area weather will continue doing whatever the heck it wants.
