Get So Hydrated, TSA Won't Let You Travel

What's New At Ava's

February 5, 2026

Hi Reader,

This week is all about non-alcoholic drinks that know who they are. No fake tequila energy. No “notes of oak.” Just bubbles, fruit, probiotics, and beverages that show up confidently as themselves. If you’re cutting back, taking a break, or just tired of drinks with an identity crisis, Ava's is here to keep you hydrated and refreshed… and slightly smug about it. 💧✨

✨ Sparkling Water 💧

Let's talk about the most honest drink in the store: sparkling water. No cosplay. No “notes of bourbon.” No wink wink this is basically a Negroni. Just water. With bubbles. Loud, proud bubbles. 💥💧

And oh boy, do we have an unreasonable amount of it. Like, concerning. Tall cans, short cans, glass bottles, plastic bottles, mineral-rich, barely-there bubbles, aggressively fizzy bubbles, lemon, lime, grapefruit, yuzu, something called “Mediterranean Essence” that sounds like a candle but slaps. If you can’t find a sparkling water you like at Ava’s, we regret to inform you that you may simply not like hydration. Which is brave. Questionable. But brave.

But… Why do they all taste and feel different? It’s not just vibes. Sparkling waters vary by:

  • Carbonation level – Some are lightly tickled, others feel like they’re trying to violently escape your… let's say, mouth.
  • Mineral content – Calcium, magnesium, sodium, etc. These affect mouthfeel and flavor. (Yes, water has mouthfeel. Welcome to adulthood.)
  • Carbonation source – Naturally carbonated vs. injected CO₂. One is subtle and elegant. The other is all, “HELLO I’M HERE KNOCK KNOCK.”
  • pH & bubble size – Smaller bubbles feel creamier; big bubbles feel like they’re ANGRY at your tongue, and have something to say about that.

A brief, extremely chill history of sparkling water?

People have loved (naturally) bubbly mineral water for thousands of years, mostly because ancient humans were like, “This water feels weird… must be healthy.” Romans even built baths around naturally carbonated springs. Fast-forward to the 1700s, when science figured out how to add bubbles on purpose, and suddenly sparkling water went from mystical spring juice to everyday fancy.

And don't forget about the many benefits of staying hydrated, from better energy, to mental clarity and focus (Hey! Stop watching TV, and finish reading this newsletter! …We saw that.). So swing by Ava’s, stare at our sparkling water wall like it’s an art installation, and grab a few you’ve never tried. Worst case scenario: you drank water. Best case: you find your bubble personality. Either way, your body wins. 🫧

🍹 And A Splash More… 💦

Not every non-alcoholic drink needs to whisper, “I could’ve been a cocktail if things went differently.” Some beverages are perfectly happy being themselves. No fake gin botanicals. No “barrel-aged vibes.” Just drinks that show up, do their job, and don’t lie to you. Mad respect to keeping it real. 🙌

KACE Fruit Tea

KACE is what happens when tea and fruit decide to collaborate instead of compete. These are cold-brewed fruit teas with clean, bright flavor and absolutely zero drama. No caffeine jitters, no sugar bomb, no weird aftertaste that makes you squint suspiciously at the can. Just refreshing, lightly fruity, deeply crushable tea (and can!) that tastes like it was made by someone who actually drinks tea on purpose.

Fun fact: cold-brewing tea extracts fewer tannins, which is why KACE tastes smoother and less bitter than hot-brewed tea that’s been iced and emotionally neglected. It’s basically tea that went to therapy. (And isn't therapy on your New Year's Resolution list?)

Live Organic Living Soda

Live is a soda, yes… but it’s also doing important work for your gut ecosystem, which is a phrase that sounds fake but is unfortunately very real. These are lightly sweetened, organically made sodas with live probiotics, meaning they help support digestion while still tasting like a treat. Think classic soda flavors, but smarter, calmer, and not trying to have a boxing match with your pancreas.

Fun fact: probiotics are measured in billions of live cultures (yes, with a B), which means when you drink a Live soda, you are literally hosting a microscopic house party that improves digestion (and doesn't wreck my couch, Brad).

🍷 Check Out Our New NA Section! 🍹

Big news at Ava’s! We’ve officially created a dedicated non-alcoholic wine, spritz, and spirits section, all together, right at the end of the wine aisle… because wandering around awkwardly reading labels is so 2025. Whether you’re Dry January’ing, Dry Living It, or just shopping for that friend who also deserves to be holding a fancy glass, this is your spot. We’re talking a shockingly large selection of NA wines, bubbly spritzes, and spirits that actually taste like grown-up beverages (not juice in a cheap tuxedo). Same ritual, same mouthfeel (somehow that's a word), with zero regrets. Come check it out, and enjoy feeling hydrated and smug. 🍷✨

Upcoming Events

  • Fri, Jan 16, 5-7PM (ish) – 🍹 Cocktail Tasting
Looks like a seltzer. Drinks like a cocktail. West Peak Sparkling Spirits embodies that ancient wisdom: adding bubbles to booze is always a great idea.
  • Mon, Jan 19 – 🖤 MLK Day
A day to reflect on community, care, and showing up for one another. If you’re off work, take a walk down Castro St, support a local shop, and do one small good thing for your neighborhood. Ava’s will be here for you, no group project required.
  • Sat Jan 31 & Sun Feb 1 – 📚 MV Library Book Sale
MVPL is hosting a book sale, which means you can (legally) obtain a dangerously tall stack of books for the price of a single downtown latte. Bonus: since it’s a quick walk from Ava’s, come grab snacks first! Reading is a lot more fun when you're snacking or sipping.
  • Mon, Feb 2 – 🐹 Groundhog Day
A small rodent will look at his shadow and somehow decide how soon winter ends. This is science. Either way, Ava’s will be here with comfort food, because no matter what Phil says, Bay Area weather will continue doing whatever the heck it wants.
