What's New At Ava's

Hi Reader,
Downtown Mountain View's Oktoberfest takes over Castro Street this weekend, October 10–11. There will be beer. There will be sausages. There will be grown adults discovering that leather shorts are a surprisingly serious wardrobe commitment.
And Ava's is keeping the sausage party rolling, putting the "German" straight into your all-too-germane kitchen. Sausages, mustard, sauerkraut, and a suspiciously good curry surprise await. So clear the counter and put on something with an accordion. Your kitchen will transform into a beer hall, and your dishwasher is making a pretty convincing tuba noise.
First, Do Your Wurst
Every good sausage party starts with someone taking the sausages far too seriously. Hello. It's us. We've brought tongs. Clack clack.
Start with Dibrova Bratwurst from Ava's: smoky, savory links that deserve a browned exterior and a roll sturdy enough to catch the good bits. These are already fully cooked, so warm them through and give them some color. Moderate heat is your friend.
For the plant-aligned, Beyond Sausage Brat Original gets a place in the pan, too. Cook those through separately, then let everybody meet at the condiment table. We can accommodate different sausages. We cannot accommodate another person clicking the tongs near our ear.
Guten Appetit! That's “enjoy your meal.” A useful phrase, although at this stage you're saying it to a pan. If it answers, put the lid on.

Mustard & Kraut: The Starting Lineup
Now dress that sausage. It came all this way and you're sending it out in just a bun?
Mustard and sauerkraut earn the best seats at this party. Mustard's sharpness cuts through a rich bite; kraut brings tang and a little crunch. At Ava's, Maille Dijon Original supplies the smooth, sharp swipe, while Whole Grain adds those lovely little seeds. Choose your texture. This is the rare household debate you can settle with two sausages.
German even gives us “seinen Senf dazugeben”: literally, to add your mustard; idiomatically, to put in your two cents. Finally, a condiment for the person explaining how YOU should load the dishwasher. Pile on Eden Organic Sauerkraut or Kühne Barrel Sauerkraut. Eden ferments its cabbage for at least six weeks to develop that tang. Six weeks! Meanwhile, you got impatient waiting for the pan to heat.
Drain a forkful before adding it so your bun stays a bun. You're not impressing anyone by imitating Joey Chestnut's winning technique. Take your time.

B-Team Condiments. Berlin Credentials.
Currywurst is a Berlin institution: sausage with a curry-spiced tomato sauce. Herta Heuwer is widely credited with creating the sauce in Berlin in 1949. This is a German snack tradition with considerably more history than your air fryer.
The Hela Curry Ketchup at Ava's gives browned sausage a sweet-tangy tomato coating with warm spice and a little heat. For a quick currywurst-inspired plate, slice a cooked brat, squeeze some over, and add fries. Suddenly you're standing in front of a Berlin snack stand, without trying to remember which way to look before crossing the street (pro-tip: both ways, always).
Knorr Curry Sauce takes a different route: creamy, fruity, and mellow, lovely as a dip for a crisp-edged piece of sausage. Try a little beside the ketchup and let the two compete for your next bite.

Bier: The Closing Ceremony
You've dipped your sausage, negotiated with mustard, and opened a small Berlin outpost beside your toaster. Time for a cold one.
Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier brings golden malt richness and a gentle hop edge, just right after a big bite of smoky brat and sharp mustard. Or keep the beer closer to home with East Brother Fest Bier, venturing all the way from… Richmond. A Bay Area guest at your Bavarian kitchen party? We already let Dijon in; let's not get difficult now.
Take that huge bite of sausage. Follow it with an ice-cold sip. Prost! German for “cheers,” and much easier to pronounce than whatever just came out of the accordion.
